Breshna, the Lightning-Fast Game Creating Platform, Coming to Blockchain

Video games are one of the best forms of entertainment. From multiplayer survival games like Among Us to action/adventure hits like The Legend of Zelda, there is a video game for everyone to enjoy. There are currently over five million games in existence.

Much like technological advancements over the years, the way gamers are exploring games is evolving over time. Most notably, there's been an increase in discussion around Blockchain gaming.

The State of Gaming on the Blockchain

There have been some interesting findings according to DappRadar's recent report from April 2022. Blockchain gaming activity has reportedly increased by 2000% from the previous year. In March 2022, over 1.22 million unique active wallets were reported connecting daily to Blockchain games!

An even more interesting fact, the article mentions that 52% of blockchain activity comes from gaming dApps (decentralized applications) alone, with a reported total of $2.5 billion having been raised by games and metaverse projects within the first quarter of 2022.

With these reports, it seems clear that Blockchain gaming continues to be on the rise. I recommend checking out DappRadar's full report for more information.

Breshna is a platform simplifying game development by allowing users to create video games at lightning speed (hence its name, which means "lightning" in Pashto language).

Breshna, the Canva of Game Creators

Impressively, as of June 20 of this year, Breshna has had over 20,000 users of which 2k are registered game makers that have created over 5k video games. It's no surprise that there's been quite a bit of traffic with how easy the platform is to use.

Breshna changes how games are created and used (more detail) graphic!

Is it truly easy to use? Yes! In fact, we will be taking the next few minutes to explore the steps that it takes to create a game on Breshna.

Lesson: How to create a game on Breshna

Allow me to break down the game creation process using the Breshna game creator. Users can quickly create hyper-casual games like Wordle, Flappy Bird, and Hangman within minutes of visiting the website. We will be going through the process in a step-by-step manner to make setup a breeze!

This image shows the user interface that allows choosing a game templatet on Breshna

Step 1: Select a template

To get started, simply select a template that you'd like to use to create your game! For this lesson, let's assume that you want create a Space Invaders-inspired game using the "Seek & Smash" template. There are a ton of different templates to choose from, and new templates are being added often, so make sure to check back from time to time if you enjoy creating games!

Step 2: Customize your game's basic settings!

After selecting a template, the user can customize basic settings of the game such as the game's title, tags, category, and description.

Title: This section is where you would put the title for your game. This is very important, as your title will be displayed to all users that choose to play your game!

Tags: Tags are what will help people find your game! Think of them as a search filter. For example, if your game is focused on space, you can include a "space" tag to reflect this. If you use informative tags, more people will be able to find your game across the Breshna platform.

Category: This is the category that your game will be listed under. In the example listed below, I have tagged my game as an educational game.

Description: The description will be the summary of what your game is about. It's recommended that you share things that define the purpose of your game. Questions you might consider answering in the description are: How does a user go about beating your game? What is the goal of your game?

Step 3: Look & Feel - Customizing your game's assets!

Outside of the game's text-related customization options, the creator can also choose which assets they'd like to use inside of their game. We'll be customizing our ship by changing the game's avatar.

This shows the user interface of the Breshna Game Creator - it allows the customization of our assets.

Want to add items that the user can collect to increase their score? That's easy, just check out the collectibles tab on the left, select any items you'd like to add, then customize the amount of points those items are worth on the right-hand side.

Afterward, you can continue customizing even more settings by going through the different options on the left side.

For example, you can customize non-collectibles, which you can use to remove points from the user's score. Another setting you can customize is the music as well, which will give you several different audio tracks to choose from. Feel free to play around with settings until you're happy with the game you've created! The power is in your hands.

Nice job, you created your first Breshna game!

What really impressed me was how easy the platform is to use. I was truly able to put together a game within 15 minutes! Another thing worth mentioning is that you can create a game in any language that you know. This is thanks to the creator's simplicity, which allows you to type words from any language into the text fields. Imagine how useful this could be for teaching people words in different languages, or reaching out to an audience on the other side of the world!

Coming Soon: The Breshnaverse

With the process mentioned above, there are many different aspects of a game that creators can customize. In the Breshnaverse (A web3 layer of Breshna), players will be able to not only create games at lightning speed, but they will be able to own their assets as NFTs (non-fungible tokens) as well.

This is an image of the Breshnaverse, a web3 layer for Breshna.io

If you're wondering what a non-fungible token is, it is an asset on the blockchain that has unique identification codes and metadata which is used to distinguish assets from one another. To put it in more simple terms, you can think of NFTs as an image that has a digital receipt of authenticity on the blockchain. It should be noted that this definition works for NFTs in the most basic state. As different use-cases continue to pop up for NFTs, the definition too will evolve over time.

Non-fungible tokens can be used in many different ways, some as access passes to gain entry to events (like how concert tickets allow entry to a concert), while others may not have the same type of utility. The type of utility each NFT offers varies from NFT to NFT, with some not having utility at all, which is totally fine.

There will be a virtual carnival inside the Breshnaverse!

With that out of the way, it will be easier to understand exactly how the Breshnaverse works. You can think of the Breshnaverse as a the web3 layer of Breshna. It is currently in its developmental stages, but is expected to release later this year.

Much like the centralized version of Breshna, the Breshnaverse allows creators to choose from an array of different avatars and assets for their game. One of the key benefits to adding a web3 layer to Breshna's infrastructure is that the platform now empowers many different types of creators.

This photo shows the Breshna Marketplace!

Breshna empowers users to embed their own NFTs into their video games, be it in the form of avatars, backgrounds or collectible items. So unlike other web3 games that are limited to their internal NFTs, Breshna adds a utility to existing NFT series by giving them a virtual home in hyper-casual Breshna games.

Create your own hyper-casual blockchain games!

Earning in The Breshnaverse

The Breshnaverse will have its own token available later, known as the $BRSH token (or Breshna Token). This token will be able to immediately start accumulating value from day 0 and is anticipated to gradually rise over time as the playerbase grows.

Breshnaverse Token Flow information

The Breshna Token will be able to be used for in-game governance. What does that mean? In-game governance is when the community uses tokens (Breshna Tokens, in this case) to propose a change as well as to vote for or against a change. This community governance allows members of the Breshnaverse to influence decisions that could change the game and its ecosystem.

I mentioned earlier that the Breshnaverse will empower different types of creators. Well, we were just talking about the Breshna Token, which can be earned by any type of user who's on the Breshnaverse.

What I meant is that, while most blockchain games focus only on the Play-to-Earn (P2E) model, the Breshnaverse will have multiple ways for the community to earn. As you'd expect from the name, the Play-to-Earn model awards users cryptocurrency as they play the game. The Breshnaverse has a Play-and-Earn option which allows users to earn rewards from playing games on Breshna. In addition to the P&E model, the Breshnaverse will be introducing a Make-and-Earn and Contribute-and-Earn model as well. These earning options vary based off of the user's role-type, which will be discussed in this next section!

Role-types

There are three different types of user roles that will be available on the Breshnaverse, each earning Breshna Tokens through different methods. These role-types include makers, players, and contributors. Each role-type has a unique way of earning Breshna Tokens.

Breshnaverse User Roles & Platform interactions

  • The Maker is the person who compiles the game. They can buy or rent NFTs from the marketplace and then insert them into the Game Maker to use within their own games. In the virtual carnival area, makers can build carnival stands to display their games at.

Makers are awarded $BRSH through a reward pool for quantity and quality of games created. Like in real life carnivals, Makers are able to charge players tokens to play games at their stand.

  • The Player earns redeemable NFT rewards and can also win rewards by playing games at the carnival.

Players are awarded $BRSH by playing games, participating in jousts, and attending virtual events. The amount of $BRSH rewarded will be through a pool distributed to the community of players.

  • The Contributor can contribute their own NFTs to the marketplace, allowing the use of their digital assets within games on the site.

Contributors are awarded $BRSH through contributing high-quality assets (Determined by popularity of the uploaded NFT) as well as through selling or renting their NFTs as game assets.

Imagine you are an artist who wants to create assets for casual games. Well, the Breshnaverse enables artists to sell their assets to its community of game creators.

Are you a musician? You can create cool and exciting musical themes for game makers to use in their games. Do you want to create games? Not a problem, browse the NFT assets on Breshna's marketplace, purchase them, then add them to your game! Just wanna have fun? No problem, the Breshnaverse will eventually host a wide variety of games created by its community.

The beauty of the Breshnaverse will come from its dedicated community of creators and players. The games available on launch day will evolve over time as the platform amasses a larger community. The goal is to one day have many different genres of games for people to enjoy. I love that the platform is powered by the community itself.

Because the Breshnaverse is still in development, there are things that are subject to change over time. I am extremely impressed and very excited for the launch!

If you'd like to check out a more in-depth version of what the Breshnaverse plans to offer, as well as other useful information like tokenomics and all the statistical data, I recommend checking out the web3 section on Breshna's website.
